A large-scale German Louis XV giltwood "Canape de L'Amitie" with mirror. Comprising an irregular cartouche-shaped plate having an arched crest of C-scrolled rocaille above similarly detailed sides and rail which centres a similar scrolling motif, the canapé flanked by adjoining fauteuils with "C" scroll and rocaille modelled crest rails, continuing on serpentine rectangular frames enclosing padded backs, padded downsweeping arms and conforming padded seats over undulating seat rails with rocaille carving; the whole raised on six front cabriole legs with foliate detailed knees ending in whorl feet. Upholstered in a French blue toile on a cream ground. Measures: 119.5 x 114 inches. Reference: Solitude Palace, Stuttgart, Germany. Very similar to those Sofas and Mirrors in Canape De L'Amitie form designed by Solitude's Chief Architect, La Guepiere for the " Anteroom." Though no furnishings survive in place from the Anteroom of Solitude, La Guepiere's conceptual drawings do. And these drawings bear strong resemblance to the Perim Lang Sofa. As do chairs in place at Solitude in other palace rooms.
