    Late 18th Century Mahogany Five Pedestal Dining Table with Four Additional Leaves. Well-figured and Highly Prized Single Board Tops on Tilt Top Mechanism. Beautifully hand-planed boards. Pillar pedestals each with four splayed legs and brass casters. Wonderful color and patina. Rarely are we able to acquire a provenanced piece of furniture that was in continuous usage for over 200 years in the same family. The Goddards of Providence, Rhode Island. This table remained in the Goddard Family home on Power Street, built by William Goddard in 1762. This table remained in this house (see photo) until we acquired it. Provenance: William Goddard, 1790 through family descent to present.

    Item Details A Signed 19th Century Metamorphic Writing Desk by William Richardson of Leeds and Bradford. Original leather top. Beautiful mellow patina, carved neoclassical legs with "lamb tongue carving." Top opens and turns producing a 75" x 54 1/2" table surface. Original brass elements. Drawers. Truly an unusual and desirably functional piece of metamorphic furniture from the Victorian Era by one of the UK's leading cabinet maker's of the period. Note: From the Furniture History Society, "Richardson, William and William Mason (father and son) Leeds, Yorkshire; master joiner, furniture dealer, cabinet maker, upholsterer and furnisher (fl.1881-1908) William Richardson was born on 3 December 1849 in Barton upon Humber, Lincolnshire. By 1881 he was living at 230 Woodley Road in Leeds with his wife, Margaret and their one-year-old son, William Mason, born on 16 February 1880. At this time William was described as a 'master joiner'. By 1891 William and Margaret had three children, two sons and a daughter, William then described as a 'furniture dealer'.
