Large Mid-18th Century Oil Painting of Putti Engaged in Music Making Attributed to Jacob de Wit. Well executed as de Wit's works are. Painted En Grisaille. Canvas relined and evidence of some repair. Mostly intact hand by a Baroque and Early Rococo Master. Provenance: New York City Collector Jacob de Wit (19 December 1695 – 12 November 1754) was a Dutch artist and interior decorator who painted many religious scenes and was know for his Grisaille works. A large 19th century oil on canvas of American Frontier Life, Possibly Missouri. Landscape with a cabin in foreground, cows, tree, pioneers. Also with rolling hills, a sailboat and farmers in distance. Very reminiscent of the Hudson River School but more in line with the Luminist Style of George Caleb Bingham (1811-1879). Antique original wallpaper fireboard. An interior scene combining elements of still life and animal art with a dog and cat depicted beneath a table displaying flora, fruit, bread, wine, and other forms. Original wood back replaced and now presented on rectangular wood board backing. --Fire boards were used in homes to cover the fireplace in the Summer months. This rare hand painted example is wonderful as it depicts an actual fireplace with tools pets and flowers.Dimensions:
