Item Details Handmade to Scale Architectural Model of the "Derby Summer House" or "McIntire Tea House" designed in 1793 by Architect, Samuel McIntire. The actual building is now located on the grounds of Glen Magna Farms, Danvers, MA. This model is an exacting scale model of the amazing Federal original which includes copies of the original statues, urns and McIntire swags. Precision cutting of materials allows the model to separate at each floor and the roofline. We have included a photo of the original Summer House in this listing. Never have we seen a model of this or of this precision. The Summer House is every designer's, architect's and historian's dream structure. Also included is a tall simple pedestal for display. Notes: Samuel McIntire designed this ornate Federal style garden house for Elias Hasket Derby's farm in Salem, Massachusetts. The structure is 20 feet square, 2½ stories high, decorated with pilasters, swags, and Grecian urns, and topped with rustic wood statues of a Reaper and Shepherdess (milkmaid). The ground floor is punctuated by central arched openings on the east and west facades, each flanked with arched windows with wooden keystones. The second floor is ornamented with swags and fluted Ionic pilasters at the corners and between windows. A young lady's diary from 1802 records her contemporary impressions: The air from the windows is always pure and cool and the eye wanders with delight over the beautiful landscape below…The room is ornamented with some Chinese figures and seems calculated for serenity and peace Dimensions: Height: 31 in (78.74 cm) Width: 15.5 in (39.37 cm) Depth: 16 in (40.64 cm) Style: Federal (In the Style Of) Materials and Techniques: Cedar,Composition,Plexiglass,Wood,Hand-Crafted,Molded,Painted Place of Origin: United States Period: 21st Century Date of Manufacture: 2000 Condition: Good Wear consistent with age and use. -
About
Life-size draped classical male ship's figurehead of English 19th century origin. The carving is quite similar to that of the figurehead rescued from the HMS Leander circa 1848 and carved by the Hellyer's of Portsmouth and Cosham. Our figurehead, while exhibiting a quite typical vertical crack, does not exhibit much wood loss. We left it "as found" as to allow the collector his or her own scraping or repainting. Some early pigments remain.Details
